To sell the Yugo AK or not to sell
Well I have had my Yugo Underfolder AK-47 now for about 9 months and I have had the chance to shoot it a few times and have put about 500 rounds through it. Thing runs like a champ. Have a Chinese drum for it, a few 40 rd mags and around 15 30 rd mags. Also sitting on a couple thousand rounds of ammo.
After taking it out last weekend and shooting it from a few different positions I kept thinking to myself how much I hate this damn metal underfolding stock. The way my body is built the damn thing just doesn't really sit well against my shoulder/chest. I am really wishing now that I had either a Yugo AK with a wood stock or maybe even just another AR-15. What should I do GIM? Sell it or get over the fact that it isn't the most comfortable gun to shoot? If I sell it I think I am going to just build myself another AR-15. |

The underfolder stock is my main gripe about the Yugo. Sell it or trade it for the full-stock version:

Maybe get a FAL? I love shooting the 7.62 NATO rounds.

Re: To sell the Yugo AK or not to sell
I always have to laugh at the whole "AK or AR" debate. If you're not comfortable with the gun, you're not going to shoot as well with it. I grew up shooting on the AR platform. I'm comfortable with it and can put a man down at 350+ meters with one. An AK is a good gun, but I'm not as comfortable with it. M1, M1A same thing. I had a Garand and M1A before the tragic boating accident last December, but I'd grab either the DPMS LR-308 or DPMS A-15 first if the situation called for it.
Again, just so we're clear, I lost my firearms in a tragic skiing accident last July. |

Sell it and get another AR-15. The AK is not designed to be accurate just designed to spray lead.

i have never use the underfolder on mine , i like the feel of shooting it with it folded up

Re: To sell the Yugo AK or not to sell
Same thoughts as SilverCity. If you like AKs, trade or sell it for a fixed stock version. Many years ago, I bought a Remington 870 that came equipped with a factory top-fold stock and a paper-thin rubber butt pad. Looked way cool, but very uncomfortable to shoot. Firing 3 or 4 rounds produced a black and blue shoulder and blood in my mouth from resting my cheek on the stock rail! Replaced it immediately with a factory wood stock. No problems since.
Take care, Mod1 |
Re: To sell the Yugo AK or not to sell
Infantry I thought the boating accident was last June not July?
I also laugh at the AK vs AR debacle. I like both rifles and enjoy them both, just not the underfolder version of the AK. That is why it isn't a clear cut choice to get rid of my only AK or not. I do really enjoy the AR platform though and everything you can do with it in regards to optics. Hell I would even consider getting an AK74 and selling my ammo to then turn around and have double the ammo for the new AK. Downside the price of mags for a 74 compared to a 47. I could take the 20 or so mags I have now sell them and end up with only 6 or 7 decent quality mags for the 74. |

I am a southpaw, I don't think I could really fire the rifle like that without the brass bouncing off my chest and right arm every time. It would be very close as to whether it would clear my arm or not. I will try it though when I go to the range in a couple days. |
Re: To sell the Yugo AK or not to sell
If you have an AR consider the FAL.
Fantastic weapon. |
Re: To sell the Yugo AK or not to sell
A good FAL costs usually what $1200 to $1500?

Re: To sell the Yugo AK or not to sell
i am saving for a fal right now , 1 reason i like my ak underfolder because in close fighting i would think it would be a winner . if i don't get the fal i may just save an buy other ak . i have put to much money into ammo in the ak47

Re: To sell the Yugo AK or not to sell
keep it
if you bought it 9 months ago your going to take a hit on it. AR's and AK's are dropping as fast as your home did. |
Re: To sell the Yugo AK or not to sell
Why not just keep it and buy a butt stock for it? You could sell the underfolder stock or keep it in case you ever wanna sell it as a package.

Re: To sell the Yugo AK or not to sell
Prices ARE dropping and the buying frenzy is over it seems.
I had a side folder AK and like it for it's size,it was quite easily hidden if needed. It could have also been shot folded and I am left handed as well. I have a full barreled FAL right now and it is HUGE...and heavy(although mine IS a heavy barrel so there is that). I also have an AR with collapsible stock and short barrel,it has been reliable(surprised considering all the talk about how finicky AR's could be) and is again quite small. If I was in the market right now and had the $$$,I would buy a Para FAL,best of both worlds but ammo cost is HIGH. If you can get MORE than what you paid for it or how much a replacement is going to cost I would do it,otherwise keep it.Someone might also want to trade for a wood stocked AK,people do seem to love the underfolder. |
Re: To sell the Yugo AK or not to sell
AKs are dropping sure, but I bought my Yugo Underfolder for $499 and the dealer through in 3 30 round mags before the election.
I can flip it for between $650 and $700 it looks like from the big gun forum WTS boards and from Gunbroker. I don't think I have to worry about taking a loss. |
Re: To sell the Yugo AK or not to sell
Sell it and build a AR-10,if you do not have one.

Re: To sell the Yugo AK or not to sell
Why would you want to sell a rifle??? One day soon you may need to arm a squad.
